Small business owners have a lot of freedom, and that’s a huge reason why many people quit their corporate jobs. But with that freedom comes a lot of work, and it’s easy to get wrapped up in business to the point of isolation.
Just like corporate employees, small business owners have a lot of work friends but may have a hard time meeting people outside their entrepreneurial “department.” Without a corporation to host big interdepartmental events like the corporate volunteer day, how would you connect with that new friend from marketing or distribution?.
With a mission of creating a stronger community among small business professionals, MinnesotaNow is hosting Community Day volunteer events. These fun gatherings are a chance to get to know the people with your company better and other professionals while focusing on the community, rather than just leads. Community Days are a time to get out, meet some new people, and do some good!
MinnesotaNow Community Day
If you own a small business and want to give back to the community, please join us!
Our first MinnesotaNow Community Day, as seen on Eventbrite, will take place on Sunday, September 3, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Little Farm Hands exhibit at the Minnesota State Fair. Volunteers will receive a MinnesotaNow Community Day T-shirt and free admission to the State Fair.
Little Farm Hands is an agricultural education exhibit for kids. At this free, hands-on display, children (ages 3-10) experience the agricultural process from farm to market. Volunteers will greet kids, tell parents what happens at each station, and help keep the stations up-and-running as the kids “plow the field” with cute, tractor-looking trikes, plant seeds to get toy vegetables, and feed chickens to get toy eggs. At the end, they can sell everything at the market for toy money to buy a real healthy snack.
If you like little kids, you’ll enjoy this event!
To volunteer, please register at Eventbrite before August 24. You will then receive easy instructions on how to register with State Fair staff. Please register early: volunteer tickets must be sent by mail.
Little Farm Hands is located between Cooper Street, Underwood Street, and Lee Avenue.
We look forward to seeing you Sunday, September 3, at our first MinnesotaNow Community Day!
After Volunteering
After our volunteering is complete, MinnesotaNow Executive Director Justin Sundberg will lead a group to see the fair. A veteran State Fair attendee, he knows where to find the hottest additions to the fair as well as the classics everyone loves. Volunteers are welcome to go off on their own, too.
We look forward to seeing you!
